We are seeking a Superintendent - Smelter Power Operations (SPO) for one of our esteemed clients for multiple locations in the Middle East. Must Have: Extensive experience in Primary Aluminium industry with high, medium, and low voltage systems and with rectifiers. Job Summary: The Superintendent of Smelter Power Operations (SPO) will be responsible for rectification and distribution of power received from the Power Plant to the Smelter. This role is the highest authority for electrical isolation and lockout in the Smelter and holds the authority to make decisions for all electrical aspects of Plant Operations. And will have complete control, responsibility, and accountability for the company's power distribution. Key Responsibilities: Plan, organize and control the Area Operations to safely deliver a smooth, uninterrupted power supply. To oversee the complete operations and maintenance of the smelting area. Plan the Area work schedules. Re-plan to address contingencies (eg: changes in Departmental priorities). Consider upstream and downstream needs and impacts. Lead the Area maintenance function, including predictive, preventative maintenance and break-down repairs to ensure reliability and availability of power supply to the Smelter. Ensure to deliver a safe work environment. Develop the EHS systems - lead the teams to: (1) undertake root cause analysis of accidents or near misses and take the necessary action to mitigate risk; (2) review the EHS plan and formulate proposals for improvement; (3) execute projects to drive excellence in EHS. Constantly required to make decisions about safety and operational priorities. Lead the teams to execute programs to reduce resource usage (eg: energy, compressed air) and enhance environmental outcomes. Apply innovation and leadership skills to lead and deliver continuous improvement and deliver improvement in performance. Monitor and control maintenance expenses and Identify ways to decrease costs and increase productivity or resource-utilization. Analyse, monitor and control expenditure to ensure the Area achieves its financial target. Take action to correct budget variances. Work within delegated financial limits. Contribute to the Development of Departmental policy and strategy. Collaborate with Superintendents across all the Department and the Plant to optimize Smelter outcomes, drive continuous improvement and share best practice. Lead the Area teams to safely deliver production targets and maximize profits. Develop the teams to deliver improvement in workforce capability and sustained levels of performance. To handle Smelter Blackouts, Major/Critical equipment faulting/tripping, Hazardous Energy Control, Complex Electrical Design Calculations, Project Management and provide Plant technical support. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Minimum 8 years of experience with recent 5 years in a supervisory role is mandatory. Should have strong experience in working with high, medium, and low voltage systems. Extensive experience and understanding of the work of the Smelter Area and the Department. Extensive experience with rectifiers and knowledge of the equipment and safety requirements. Strong managerial experience is required. Should have well-developed communications skills, be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced environment, and to lead emergency response. Deep knowledge and experience in the EHS policies, systems and management procedures applied in an industrial plant. Deep knowledge of the equipment, systems and processes.
